Tulip Flower Crochet Pattern

The Tulip Flower Crochet Pattern creates a simple tulip flower with a flat base. You can easily adjust the size by using thicker yarn or a larger crochet hook.

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in two colors (one for the flower and one for the stem)
  • Crochet hook (size appropriate for your yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing (optional)

Stitches used:

  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)

Flower:

  1. Magic Ring: Make a magic ring (alternatively, chain 4, slip stitch to first chain to form a ring).
  2. Round 1: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc 8 into the ring, slip stitch to join. (8 sc)
  3. Round 2: Chain 2 (counts as first sc), 2 sc in each sc around, slip stitch to join. (16 sc)
  4. Round 3: Chain 2, sc in first sc, 2 sc in each sc around, slip stitch to join. (24 sc)
  5. Round 4-6: Chain 2, sc in each sc around, slip stitch to join. (24 sc each round)
  6. Stuffing (optional): Lightly stuff the flower with stuffing before continuing.
  7. Shaping the Petal: Chain 1, slip stitch in next stitch. Fold the circle in half and slip stitch the two halves together at the top to close the flower. Weave in ends.

Petals (make 2):

  1. Chain 12.
  2. Single crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook, then sc in the next 3 chains.
  3. Half double crochet (hdc) in the next 3 chains.
  4. Single crochet in the next 2 chains.
  5. Three single crochets in the last chain.
  6. Turn your work and sc in the first 2 chains.
  7. Hdc in the next 3 chains.
  8. Double crochet (dc) in the last 4 chains.
  9. Slip stitch to the first dc to join the petal. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Stem:

  1. With green yarn, chain a desired length for the stem (around 30 chains for a medium-sized tulip).
  2. Single crochet in each chain back down the stem. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the two petals onto opposite sides of the flower base.
  2. Sew the stem to the bottom of the flower base.

Tips:

  • You can adjust the number of rounds for the flower base to make it larger or smaller.
  • For a more realistic tulip, experiment with different colors for the flower and stem.
  • You can add a small amount of wire to the stem to make it posable.
